* Karwa Chauth - November 4
Karwa Chauth is a festival of love, commitment and unwavering trust between husband and wife. Celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm, on this day, women keep fast for the long lives of their husbands. They go without food and water for the whole day and break their fast after worshiping moon in the evening. In this fast, mother-in-laws give sargi to their daughter-in-laws, after which they initiate fasting.
* Dhanteras - November 13
Dhanteras is a festival of wealth and prosperity. It marks the beginning of a festival of lights, Diwali. On this day, people buy gold and silver jewellery or gold coins that have a picture of Goddess Lakshmi embossed on them. It is believed, people are bringing Goddess of Wealth into their homes.
* Diwali - November 14
Diwali is the most important festival of Hindus. Popularly known as a festival of lamps and lights, this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity and Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles and pray for the wealth and prosperity in their lives. * Bhai Dooj - November 16
Bhai Dooj is a festival that celebrates the love between brother and sister. Known with different names in different parts of the country, Bhai dooj is celebrated as Bhau Beej in Goa and Mahastrashtra, Ningol Chakuba in eastern India and Bhai Phota in Bengal. On this day, sisters put tikka on the forehead of brothers and pray for their long lives and brothers shower them with gifts.
* Chhath Pooja - November 20
Chhath Pooja is a festival, celebrated by the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP, which has spread all over India in last decade only. It comes after the 6th day of Diwali, dedicated to Lord Sun. On this day, married women walk up to the river or pond to worship and give offerings to the rising Sun, which is called “Usha Arghya” and take a holy dip in the water body. They prepare the prasadam comprising litti, chokha and sweet thekua.
* Dev Uthani Ekadashi - November 25
According to some ancient fables, on the day of Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu wakes up from his short slumber of 4 months. During this time, no auspicious activity can take place, hence, Dev Uthani Ekadashi is a day that marks the beginning of an auspicious period where important events can be initiated like marriage. Tulsi Vivah also happens on this day.
